Math
The Mathematics Department at NBMS is proud of our challenging standards-based program, the result of which earned our school a monetary reward from the state. We teach using a variety of methods and tools in order to make the curriculum accessible to all learners, including hands-on projects, traditional textbooks, study skills/note taking and technology.
Students in Core Connections, Course 1, 2 and 3 use problem-solving strategies, questioning, investigating, analyzing critically, gathering and constructing evidence, and communicating rigorous arguments justifying their thinking. Under teacher guidance students learn in collaboration with others while sharing information, expertise, and ideas. The course helps students to develop multiple strategies to solve problems and to recognize the connections between concepts. -CPM
Core Connections Integrated I is the first course in a five-year sequence of college preparatory mathematics courses that starts with Core Connections Integrated I and continues through Calculus Third Edition. It aims to deepen and extend student understanding built in previous courses by focusing on developing fluency with solving linear equations, inequalities, and systems. These skills are extended to solving simple exponential equations, exploring linear and exponential functions graphically, numerically, symbolically, and as sequences, and by using regression techniques to analyze the fit of models to distributions of data. -CPM
NBMS Math Pathway
The accelerated pathway begins in the 7th-grade year. Students complete almost all of Core Connections, Course 2 and Core Connections, Course 3 in 7th grade, then use Core Connections Integrated I in 8th grade along with a few topics from Core Connections, Course 3.
